Asepsis: What is it and why is it important for health?

We often say that in environments such as hospitals or medical centers, good disinfection is essential, but do we know what is the meaning of asepsis? Today we want you to know this term and its importance for our health.
What is asepsis? Definition
Asepsis is the absence of septic matter, the non-existence of putrefactive substances and pathogenic germs. Therefore, it is a state without infection.
The procedures and techniques used to prevent germs, bacteria, viruses and fungi from entering our organism are also called asepsis.
Asepsis to prevent contagion
Any environment can be contaminated by disease-causing microorganisms. When a sick person breathes, coughs or sneezes, the bacteria that cause illness are transferred to the air and can easily enter healthy bodies.
Therefore, in nursing and medicine, good aseptic methods are essential to prevent the spread of microorganisms and contagion.
Types of asepsis
The need to disinfect is not the same in all spaces, so there are different levels of asepsis:
Asepsis for high risk areas:
Surgery rooms, isolation rooms, intensive care and monitoring units, blood extraction rooms, birthing rooms, laboratories… are areas where there is a high probability of contagion, so it is essential the absence of germs and bacteria in total.
Asepsis for medium risk areas:
Those areas where proper asepsis is important, but where there is less danger of contagion. For example, rooms, outpatient clinics, physiotherapy rooms or the kitchen.
Asepsis for low risk areas:
Hallways, offices or warehouses are spaces where there is a low risk of bacteria spreading and becoming contagious. Good disinfection is also recommended in these environments.
How to ensure a well-generalized asepsis
Most germs and bacteria are transmitted through the air, so it is less likely to become infected in open spaces and we must control the asepsis of enclosed spaces where there is more chance of contagion.
There are different asepsis techniques, however, ozone is very useful, effective and environmentally friendly when it comes to eliminating bacteria and other harmful elements from the air.
The ozone has a great disinfectant and deodorizing power. In addition, it deeply cleans any surface without damaging it.
Cleaning with ozone can be a good solution to sterilize surgical material and also to sanitize air conditioning and ventilation ducts so the air that is breathed is much purer.
Ozone cleaning is highly recommended in healthcare centers, but it can also be applied in any environment, such as factories, hotels, offices and in your home.
Asepsis is the state of absence of germs and viruses, but also the techniques applied to prevent their appearance or to exterminate them if they already exist. Perfect disinfection is important in any facility, but it is vital in hospitals and healthcare centers. There, the risk of disease contagion is very high and great care must be taken to preserve the health of patients, healthcare personnel and visitors.
If you want a space free of infections and diseases and you are interested in the different sanitation techniques, the best thing to do is to contact a cleaning company specialized in providing these services.
